Aegean Shadow (Ege Gölgesi) is an experimental mixed-media film by Özge Dilan Arslan that delves into the memories, mythologies, and symbologies of Mount Ida’s environment located in the Gulf of Edremit, Türkiye, where Canadian-owned mining operation Alamos Gold has extracted natural resources. Using an assemblage of Super 8 mm footage of the Aegean Sea’s environment, transcribed journal entries, and scans of Carbon black relief prints, the film seeks to glean the shadows and preserve stories in a world shaped by destructive settler colonial infrastructures.
